Description

A hearty and flavorful dish perfect for parties, weeknight dinners, or game-day snacks! Garbage Bread is a savory rolled bread filled with seasoned beef, gooey cheese, and a touch of tangy barbecue sauce. It’s easy to make and guaranteed to please.

Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Filling:
    • 1 pound ground beef
    • 1 tbsp olive oil
    • 1 small onion, finely chopped
    • 1 bell pepper, chopped (any color)
    • 3 cloves garlic, minced
    • ½ tsp salt
    • ½ tsp black pepper
    • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
    • ½ tsp paprika
    • ¼ cup ketchup
    • ¼ cup barbecue sauce
    • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • For the Bread:
    • 1 tube refrigerated pizza dough
    • 1 tbsp butter, melted
    • ½ tsp garlic powder
    • 1 tbsp chopped parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

1️⃣ Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper or greasing it lightly to prevent sticking.

2️⃣ Cook the Filling
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned and fully cooked (about 5-7 minutes). Drain any excess fat if needed.

Add the onion, bell pepper, and garlic to the skillet. Cook for 4-5 minutes until the vegetables are soft. Stir in the salt, black pepper, Italian seasoning, paprika, ketchup, and barbecue sauce. Mix thoroughly and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and let the filling cool slightly.

3️⃣ Assemble the Garbage Bread
Roll out the pizza dough on a lightly floured surface into a large rectangle (approximately 12×15 inches). Spread the slightly cooled beef mixture evenly over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the filling.

Starting at a long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log. Tuck in the ends and pinch the seams to seal. Place the log seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.

4️⃣ Brush with Butter and Bake
In a small bowl, combine melted butter and garlic powder. Brush this mixture over the top of the rolled dough.

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and fully cooked. Let the bread cool for 5-10 minutes to set before slicing.

5️⃣ Slice and Serve
Slice the bread into 1-inch pieces and serve warm. Garnish with chopped parsley for a touch of freshness, if desired.

Notes

  • Customize It: Swap out the beef for ground turkey or sausage, or add extras like mushrooms, jalapeños, or cooked bacon to the filling.
  • Cheese Choices: Substitute mozzarella with cheddar, pepper jack, or a blend for different flavor profiles.
  • Leftovers: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or air fryer for the best texture.
