Hawaiian Roll French Toast

  • Author: Sophia

Description

Hawaiian Roll French Toast transforms sweet, fluffy Hawaiian rolls into a decadent breakfast treat. Soaked in a rich custard and cooked to golden perfection, each bite offers a soft interior with a lightly crisped exterior. The subtle sweetness of the rolls pairs beautifully with maple syrup, fresh fruit, or a dusting of powdered sugar.

Ingredients

Scale

12 Hawaiian rolls, separated
3 large eggs
1 cup whole milk
1/4 cup heavy cream
2 tbsp granulated sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp salt
Butter for the skillet

Optional toppings
Maple syrup
Powdered sugar
Fresh berries
Whipped cream

Instructions

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.

Cut each Hawaiian roll in half horizontally to expose more surface area for soaking. Alternatively, leave them whole for bite-sized pieces.

Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat and add a bit of butter to coat the surface.

Dip each roll (or roll half) into the custard mixture, allowing it to soak for a few seconds per side. Let the excess drip off.

Place the soaked rolls onto the hot skillet and cook for about 2–3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through.

Transfer the French toast to a plate and keep warm. Repeat with the remaining rolls, adding more butter to the skillet as needed.

Serve warm with maple syrup, powdered sugar, or any toppings of your choice.

Notes

This dish is a great way to use leftover rolls and can be prepped ahead for busy mornings. For a fun twist, stuff the rolls with cream cheese or Nutella before dipping in the custard. If you’re making a large batch, keep the cooked rolls warm in a 200°F oven while you finish the rest.
