This Swedish Meatball Noodle Bake is a hearty and comforting casserole that combines tender, spiced meatballs, creamy sauce, and egg noodles, all baked to golden perfection. It’s the ultimate cozy dinner for the whole family to enjoy.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Meatballs:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp ground allspice
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg

For the Noodle Bake:

  • 8 oz egg noodles (cooked according to package instructions)
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

1️⃣ Prepare the Meatballs:
In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, allspice, and nutmeg. Mix until evenly combined. Shape into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.

2️⃣ Cook the Meatballs:
Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides and cooked through, about 8-10 minutes. Remove from the skillet and set aside.

3️⃣ Make the Sauce:
In the same skillet, melt 2 tbsp butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until golden and bubbling. Gradually add beef broth while whisking continuously. Stir in heavy cream and Worcestershire sauce. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.

4️⃣ Assemble the Noodle Bake:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a large mixing bowl, combine cooked egg noodles and meatballs. Pour the sauce over the mixture, tossing gently to coat evenly.

5️⃣ Bake the Casserole:
Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish, spreading it out evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until bubbly and the top is lightly golden.

6️⃣ Garnish and Serve:
Remove the casserole from the oven and let it cool for 5 minutes. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley before serving. Enjoy this warm, creamy, and flavorful dish!

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can mix in a handful of grated Parmesan cheese with the sauce before baking.
  • Substitute ground turkey or pork for the beef, if preferred.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or microwave.
