Avocado Grilled Cheese is a creamy, crispy, and comforting twist on the classic grilled cheese sandwich. The buttery avocado adds richness and a fresh flavor that pairs perfectly with melted cheese and golden toasted bread. It’s quick, satisfying, and ideal for lunch, a simple dinner, or anytime you’re craving something warm and indulgent.


Ingredients

2 slices of your favorite bread (sourdough, whole wheat, or white)
1 ripe avocado
½ teaspoon lemon or lime juice
Salt and black pepper to taste
1 tablespoon butter, softened
2 slices of cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, provolone, or your choice)
Optional additions: tomato slices, red onion, spinach, or cooked bacon


Instructions

Cut and scoop out the avocado into a small bowl. Mash it with lemon or lime juice, and season with salt and pepper to taste.

Spread butter evenly on one side of each bread slice. On the unbuttered side of one slice, spread a generous layer of mashed avocado.

Top the avocado with the cheese slices and any optional ingredients you like. Place the second slice of bread on top, buttered side facing out.

Heat a skillet over medium heat. Place the sandwich in the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes per side, pressing gently with a spatula, until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.

Remove from the skillet, let rest for a minute, then slice and serve warm.

Notes

Use a perfectly ripe avocado for the best texture and flavor. You can mix in a pinch of garlic powder or crushed red pepper flakes into the avocado for extra kick. Try experimenting with different cheeses or adding a drizzle of hot sauce for variety. For a vegan version, use plant-based butter and cheese alternatives.
