  • Author: Munil

Description

A comforting and hearty dish featuring creamy mashed potatoes topped with savory ground beef and rich gravy. This simple yet satisfying meal is perfect for a cozy family dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Mashed Potatoes:

  • 45 russet potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup milk (more if needed)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

For the Ground Beef and Gravy:

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

1️⃣ Prepare the Mashed Potatoes:

  • Place the cubed potatoes in a large pot and cover them with water. Add a pinch of salt.
  • Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat and cook the potatoes until they are fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes.
  • Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add the butter and milk, mashing until smooth and creamy.
  • Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Keep warm while preparing the gravy.

2️⃣ Prepare the Ground Beef and Gravy:

  • Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.
  • Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  • Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it up into small pieces as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.
  • Sprinkle the flour over the beef mixture and stir to combine. Cook for 2 minutes to eliminate the raw flour taste.
  • Gradually stir in the beef broth, followed by the Worcestershire sauce and dried thyme. Simmer until the gravy thickens, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

3️⃣ Assemble the Dish:

  • Serve the ground beef and gravy over a generous portion of mashed potatoes. Garnish with additional black pepper if desired.

Notes

  • If you prefer extra creamy mashed potatoes, feel free to add more milk or a dollop of sour cream.
  • For a richer gravy, you can replace a portion of the beef broth with heavy cream.
  • This recipe can easily be customized with the addition of vegetables like peas, carrots, or green beans for added flavor and nutrition.
