Ingredients

Scale
  • For the meat sauce:
    • 1 lb ground beef
    • 1 small onion, finely chopped
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
    • 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
    • 2 tbsp tomato paste
    • 1 tsp dried basil
    • 1 tsp dried oregano
    • Salt and pepper to taste
    • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • For the spaghetti:
    • 1 lb spaghetti
    • Water for boiling
    • Salt for pasta water
  • Optional garnish:
    • Grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

1️⃣ Prepare the sauce base: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing for 3-4 minutes until soft and fragrant.

2️⃣ Cook the meat: Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it into small pieces with a spoon. Cook until browned and no pink remains.

3️⃣ Build the sauce: Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, and tomato paste. Mix well to incorporate all ingredients.

4️⃣ Season: Add dried basil, dried oregano, salt, and pepper to taste. Stir to blend the flavors.

5️⃣ Simmer: Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.

6️⃣ Cook the spaghetti: While the sauce simmers, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

7️⃣ Combine and serve: Plate the cooked spaghetti and spoon the meat sauce generously on top. Optionally, sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, let the sauce simmer longer, up to 1 hour.
  • Add a pinch of sugar if the tomatoes taste too acidic.
  • Substitute ground beef with ground turkey or pork for variation.
  • Pair this dish with garlic bread and a fresh side salad for a complete meal.
